‘I don’t understand why…’ by Stephi Stacey

Alice left wonderland,
People brag about getting bad grades,

Everybody likes you –
Nobody likes me.

When we destroy something
It’s always my fault,

I just did what I did –
I need a title.

I put myself through this –
Anybody would say that

She chose that line out of all the lines,
You can’t take me with you.

I’m not dead -
I am here,

People hurt others,
You’re leaving me.

I have to stop.

Stephi’s poem was chosen by Jon Stone as one of his favourite individual responses to the August Challenges. It responds to Challenge 12 ‘Google Search Poem’.

I love your opening and closing lines. They are so powerful. As simple as your title is, it was captivating–I skim poems until a title jumps out and grabs my attention…which yours did. Kudos.

Thank you very much! I spent an awful long time searching a variety of different phrases on Google.
