‘Fireworks’ by Raffi Pollitt

On this dark November night:
Flaming stallions,
Scorching steeds ignite the heavens
With their fiery feud.

 

YPN team: Raffi’s poem gives us a completely imaginative take on fireworks. The display is beautiful but dangerous – with the unpredictability and also the majesty of wild animals. The poem focuses in on the night sky, but the characterization of the fireworks also gives us a hint of the speaker’s mood.
